Seasonal allergies can appear even in the fall. One of the biggest allergy triggers is ragweed, and it can be drug inside your home on your clothes, shoes and bags.
1. Know The Symptoms
Allergy symptoms can vary person to person, and some can even be mistaken for common colds.
Common symptoms include:
- Watery, itchy or generally irritated eyes
- Nasal congestion
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- Headaches
- Itchy throat
- Rashes
- Hives on the skin
2. Change Your Filters
If you haven’t changed your HVAC filters recently, consider changing them.
On average they should be changed every 2-3 months. Also consider investing in hypoallergenic filters to help those in your family with fall allergies.
3. Know Your Triggers
Know what triggers your allergy symptoms and avoid those allergens and pollutants.
Common triggers include:
- Ragweed
- Pollen
- Pet Dander
- Dust
- Mold
4.Clean The House
A clean house can always help with allergies and can help put your mind at ease.
Cleaning the house can get rid of allergens such as dust, mold, pet dander and any outdoor pollutants that may have traveled indoors.
5. Buy A DeHumidifier
Dehumidifiers can also help when you are sensitive to indoor allergens such as dust and mold.
Dust and mold thrive in humid environments and a dehumidifier may help reduce your symptoms.
6. Don’t Hang Dry Clothes
Some clothes may need to be dried by hanging on a clothesline, in the garage, laundry room or even outdoors.
Avoid hang drying clothes, especially outside during the fall allergy season. They can collect allergens and irritate your skin.
7. Visit The Doctor
If you do not know your triggers or suspect your allergies may be a cold or sickness instead of allergies, visit or consult your doctor.
8. Take Medication If And As Prescribed
If the doctor prescribed allergy medication or have been told to take common allergy medication by a doctor, then be sure to take it regularly.
This can oftentimes help soothe your symptoms, but should only be used if prescribed by a doctor.
Bonus tip: Although you may already be wearing a mask to combat the spread of COVID-19, your mask may be able to help with your fall allergies too.
